Overview
Guide for technicians to use while deploying or replacing a staff use computer. Including full-time, part-time, adjunct, front desk, conference, itinerant, and departmental function computers. Technicians should always work with their Team Lead to ensure proper procedures are followed.

Process
New Computer (No previous device)
Information Gathering
Contact the User and gather the following information. If user is a new hire and not available, gather information from supervisor. If the devices is not an individually assigned computer a supervisor in the area/department is the point of contact.
- What printers are needed?
- What software is needed?
- Schedule an installation date and time.
- Update ticket.
Computer Preparation
Takes place in the ITS office.
- Use standard image.
- If a specialty image is requested (ex. Fab lab image for staff computer) work with Tech Configuration Specialists (Tier II) on a solution.
- Run all Windows updates, including drivers.
- Open Microsoft Store and get updates.
- Add computer object to AD printer groups.
- Install requested software.
Computer Delivery and Installation
- Arrive at scheduled installation time with all equipment.
- Cables must be run neatly. Use Velcro or zip ties. If the desk has cable management, use it. If the desk has grommets tuck cables away to keep space as clean and free of cables as possible.
- Have user log in while technician is on site.
- Have user open Outlook and Teams.
- Have user open OneDrive and confirm sync is enabled.
- Have user open Adobe Creative Cloud App and log in.
- Send a test print to all local and network printers.
- If user needs Lynx enabled notify Public Safety.
- Inventory device.
- Close ticket.
Computer Replacement
Information Gathering
Contact the User and gather the following information. If the devices is general use or departmental function a supervisor in the area/department is the point of contact.
- What printers are installed?
- Printer AD group membership for device being replaced can be found in MECM using Right Click tools.
- What software is needed?
- Is Lynx installed and configured?
- Discuss data backup and provide information and guidance if needed.
- OneDrive for data backup and file management.
- Videos and Downloads are not part of OneDrive. User will need to backup/move.
- If using a pst stored locally user will need to backup/move. Suggestion is to move away from using pst. Items can be stored in Outlook
- Browser bookmarks must be backed up by user.
- Schedule an installation date and time.
- Update Ticket.
Computer Preparation

- Replace keyboard and mouse if new desktop.
- Unless user has personal keyboard/mouse or they request to keep the old one.
- Cables must be run neatly. Use Velcro or zip ties. If the desk has cable management, use it. If the desk has grommets tuck cables away to keep space as clean and free of cables as possible.
- Have user log in while technician is on site.
- Have user open Outlook and Teams.
- Have user open OneDrive and confirm sync is enabled.
- Have user open Adobe Creative Cloud App and log in.
- Send a test print to all local and network printers.
- If user had Lynx enabled on previous machine notify Public Safety.
- Inventory new device and update old device inventory.
- Close ticket
