Using Privilege Manager to Elevate Rights

Overview

Employees who have been approved for elevated administrative rights on specific computers are able to use their CCBC account to run tasks and applications with Administrative Rights.  This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to run the task or application using the elevated CCBC account.

Users who need Administrative rights to run specific tasks on multiple computers can submit a request for continuous administrative access for their account.  That process and request form can be found under the Related Services section on this page.

Audience

Faculty/Staff who have been approved for elevated administrative rights to computers.

Procedure

  1. When prompted to enter credentials on the User Account Control screen, select the More Choices link.  NOTE: You may have to scroll down the screen to see the link.

  2. Select Recast Privilege Manager.

  3. Enter the following information:
    1. Keep Run with domain account selected.
    2. Select category from drop down menu that aligns closest to what you are trying to use administrative rights for (such as application install, troubleshooting, etc.).
    3. Type in the reason for elevated rights.  NOTE: This should include more specific detail based on the category chosen.
    4. Your CCBC username should already be entered.  If not, enter it so that the field shows CCBC\username.
    5. Enter your CCBC password.
    6. Select the Yes button.

  4. Privilege Manager will process your request, which may take 5-10 seconds.  You will see the phrase "Please wait! Activating temporary access..." on the User Account Control screen while it is processing.
