Overview

ITS follows a computer naming scheme for CCBC owned computers.  Multiple management tools rely on the naming scheme for automation and proper device grouping.  The names also provide useful information at a quick glance, such as location and user type.  All computers must be named using the following scheme:

Campus designator / Use and Type designator / CCBC# / Bldg / Room

  • Campus designator
    • C = Catonsville
    • D = Dundalk
    • E = Essex
    • H = Hunt Valley
    • O = Owings Mills
    • L = Liberty Center
    • T = Tradepoint Atlantic
  • Machine use and type designator
    • AD = Admin Desktop
    • AL = Admin Laptop
    • SD = Student Desktop
    • SL = Student Laptop
    • PA = Public Access
    • IN = Instructor Station / Smart Cart
    • VK = Verify Kiosks (OneCard check-in scanner locations)                                        
  • CCBC #
  • Building - use the first two characters of the building’s abbreviation (ex. WE = Wellness and Athletics Center – WELL)
  • Room #

Examples:

  • CAD12345MA120A  This computer is located at Catonsville in the Math and Science Hall (MASH) room 120A and is an administrative/staff desktop computer
  • EIN54321SS100  This computer is located at Essex in the Student Services Center (SSRV) room 100 and is an instructor station.
