Overview

This Article will provide steps in how to troubleshoot booting problems with the HP computers

Procedure

Computer will not turn on (after each step try to boot up the PC)
  1. Unplug the PC power cord and hold the power button in for 15 seconds to discharge the capacitors on the motherboard
  2. Reset the memory
  3. Remove the CR 2032 battery from the motherboard using a small screwdriver to depress the clips then use the screwdriver on the contacts to discharge the CMOS
  4. Hold down the CMOS button (located next to the processor) to clear the CMOS error codes
  5. Swap the memory with known working memory
  6. Swap the power supply with known working power supply
Computer will not load Windows but powers on
  1. Download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI on a bootable usb link to intaller: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp171501-172000/sp171653.exe
  2. Plug USB into the computer
  3. Push the power button
  4. Repeatedly hit F2 to load HP Diagnostics
  5. Select Symptom Tests
  6. Type in ? to test everything and select OK
  7. Select Extensive and Select Run Once
  8. Computer test will run for 2 to 2 and half hours
