Overview
Guide for preparing a computer to be deployed. Includes Imaging instructions and post image tasks.

Imaging preparation
- Bare-metal computer (new device)
- No preparation is needed. Imaging Task Sequences are deployed to the Unknown Computer collection.
- Existing computer (reimage)
- Computer must be added to an imaging collection prior to network/PXE boot. The standard collection is CCBC Computer Imaging.
PXE boot
- Connect computer on wired network.
- Power on computer and network boot, typically F12 for HP devices.
- At Network (PXE) Boot Menu select IPV4 Network
- Watch boot process, If boot manager prompt is displayed press Enter. If missed the machine will reboot and you will need to start over.
- MECM Task Sequence selection and options:
- Once the Task Sequence Wizard displays enter the password and select Next.
- Select Task Sequence
- When imaging a bare-metal computer there may be multiple available task sequences. Select CCBC Computer Imaging for standard image deployment.
- At the UDI make selections based on location, usage, and needs
- Computer Name: Enter computer name following the CCBC computer naming scheme.
- Image Type: Selection based on device usage (ex. Lab=student use computer, Staff=employee use computer)
- Lab Type: Selection becomes available when a Lab or Instructor Image Type is selected.
- Operating System: This will be limited to available OS(s) based on previous selections.
- NOTE: Summer 2024 we will begin deploying Windows 11 to Lab, Instructor, Library, and Public Access computers.
- Campus:
- Software options (check boxes): Dependent on previous selections. Only install if necessary.
- Limited Licensed Apps: Verify with Team Lead or Desktop Engineering prior to selecting these applications.
- When all options have been made select Next or Finish.
- Next: Presented when Lab or Instructor Image Type is selected.
- Following screen select building and enter room number. This is used to move machines into proper OU, primarily for printer deployment.
- Finish: Starts the imaging process.
Task Sequence processing
- A task sequence can take anywhere from 30 minutes to multiple hours depending on the size of the base image and task sequence steps. A standard staff image on a newer model computer with no additional software should take 30-60 minutes.
- Most task sequences will provide a prompt when completed. Select ok and let the computer boot into windows before disconnecting from the network.
Post Image Tasks
Updates
- Login with Helpdesk or Admin account.
- Open Windows Update
- Check online for updates from Microsoft Update
- View optional updates.
- Install all updates except for OS upgrade (ex. Win10 – Win11)
- Include all drivers in update.
- Reboot if/when required and repeat process until all updates are installed.
Printer Installation
- If replacing a computer you can find the printers installed on the current machine by using Right Click tools in MECM
- Right click on device being replaced. Select Right Click Tools - Console Tools - AD Security Groups
- Add computer object to AD printer group(s).
- If you cannot find an AD printer group that matches the network printer being installed discuss with your Team Lead. Enterprise Desktop Configuration (Tier II) may need to install the printer on a print server and create the Group Policy.
- Reboot and confirm printer(s) installed.
Software installation
- Install all requested software.
- MECM is the primary location for software deployment. Not everything will be available but look first.
- If Existing Computer (reimage) check Software Center for software that was deployed prior to reimage.
