ITS Directive: Guest Access

Purpose: This directive defines the process for defining the roles and responsibilities of each user regarding the guest access to the CCBC network.  The rules stated within this directive are enforced to protect both the employee and Community College of Baltimore County ("CCBC").   

Scope: This directive is mandatory and applies to all individuals sponsoring, requesting or obtaining Guest access to the CCBC IT Resources and Guest Wireless network.  Any exception to this directive must be submitted following the Exception Handling Directive. 

General Requirements: 

Type of Accounts 

Sponsored Guest 

Sponsored guests are individuals that have a long-term relationship with the college and need access to our network resources. A request for access must be submitted by a college sponsor. Long term guests that may require a sponsored guest account include Board of Trustee members, consultants, vendors, and others who will perform work and/or use College resources on behalf of the College.  

Request and Approval process 

  • Complete Sponsored Guest/Contractor Request and Disclaimer form 

  • Guest must sign non-disclosure disclaimer on the second page of the form) 

  • Forward completed form to CIO for approval 

  • If approved, the account will be created, and the Sponsor will be provided with the account credentials. 

Termination of Account 

The sponsor must include the expiration date of the account (no greater than 1 year). If more than a year is needed, the sponsor will have to submit a request for renewal.  

Prior to the termination date, the College sponsor will receive an automated notification that  
the guest account will expire on the termination date. Unless renewed, the guest account will be  
disabled on the termination date.  

Non-Sponsored Guest 

Individuals that require short-term guest access to our network for Internet usage. Short-term guests that may request access to the college network include individuals from the public visiting the college.  

Request and Approval process 

The College will provide a guest CCBC account to non-sponsored guests when personal identification credentials are provided by the non-sponsored guest. Acceptable personal identification includes one of the following:  

  • Driver’s license with picture ID and name  

  • Government issued identification such as passport with picture ID and name  

  • Other authoritative identification that contains both a name and picture ID  

Minors without appropriate personal identification may use the identification of an accompanying adult.  

Non-sponsored guests may request a CCBC account at the following College service points:  

  • The College Library on any campus  

  • The ITS Helpdesk on any campus  

  • The Public Safety Office on any campus  

  • The Enrollment Services One-Stop-Shop on any campus  

Termination of Account 

Non-sponsored Guest accounts are automatically disabled at 11:59pm of the date of issue 

Guest Wireless Access 

Individuals with guest access can connect to CCBC’s Guest Wireless Network by logging in with the CCBC guest account credentials that was assigned to them. Access to the Guest Wireless Network will only allow authorized guests to access the Internet. Access to internal CCBC resources will be blocked.  

By using the Guest Wireless Network, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless CCBC for any losses or damages that may result from your use of the Guest Wireless Network. Individuals connected must comply with this directive, the stated purposes and Acceptable Use policies of any other network(s) or host(s) used, and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.  

CCBC takes no responsibility and assumes no liability for any content uploaded, shared, transmitted, or downloaded by you or any third party, or for anything you may encounter or any data that may be lost or compromised while connected to the Guest Wireless Network. 

CCBC reserves the right to disconnect any user at any time and for any reason. The Guest Wireless Network is provided as a courtesy to allow our guests access to the internet. Users will not be given access to the CCBC intranet or permission to install any software on our computers. 

Inappropriate use of the Guest Wireless Network is not permitted. This directive does not enumerate all possible inappropriate uses but rather presents some guidelines (listed below) that CCBC may at any time use to determine that a particular use is inappropriate: 

  • Users must respect the privacy and intellectual property rights of others. 

  • Users must respect the integrity of our network and any other public or private computing and network systems. 

  • Use of the Guest Wireless Network for malicious, fraudulent, or misrepresentative purposes is prohibited. 

  • The Guest Wireless Network may not be used in a manner that precludes or hampers other users' access to the Guest Wireless Network or any other networks. 

  • Nothing may be installed or used that modifies, disrupts, or interferes in any way with service for any user, host, or network.
