Getting Started with Power Automate

Since you can do a variety of things within Power Automate, it important to know how to get started :

  • What types of things you want to automate to? (Forms, Outlook, Teams, Push Notifications)
  • Who need access to Power Automate?

A lot of Power Automate is Trial & Error

  • You can make flow as simple or complex as you want
  • Plan out and identify what you want to accomplish
  • How to effectively use Power Automate

Creating your First Flow

  • You can either:
    • Create a workflow from scratch
      • 3 Main Cloud flow that will trigger
        • Automated Cloud: trigger by event
        • Instant Cloud: trigger manually as needed
        • Scheduled Cloud: you choose how often it runs
  • Create a workflow from an existing template (Best Suggestion)
    • If you do use a template, in the search bar you can type in the name of program you want to use to find template that uses that product.
      • Example: If you type “forms”, you see workflow template that involve Microsoft Forms
      • can tweak templates by adding, editing, or removing triggers and actions to create your own flows.
      • Many different templates to choose from

Connecting your Flow

Power Automate uses connections to make it easy for you to access your data while building flows. Once it connect you will see Green Check Mark, select continue

You may get error message that say invalid connection: If you are trying to use…

  • OneDrive – Use OneDrive for Business , not OneDrive
  • Outlook – Use Office 365 Outlook, not Outlook
